Although both teams entered the contest with a 4-0 record, there was no doubt that the Fort Hamilton Tigers started the game at Sid Luckman Field as the underdogs facing last season’s PSAL championship Erasmus Hall team.Prior to this game, the Dutchmen had scored 130 points mainly on the efforts of running backs Khalil Lewin and Curtis Samuel, while the Erasmus defense led by linebacker Jose Duncan had only allowed seven points over the last four games.

From the start of the game, the Erasmus offense began their dominance with a two-yard touchdown run by Khalil Lewin for an immediate 7-0 first quarter lead.

A fumble by Tiger quarterback Sharif Legree led to the second Dutchmen score after Erasmus quarterback Daiquan Gwyn scrambled 30 yards into the end zone. Curtis Samuel followed with his first of two touchdown (three yards) runs of the game.

Up by 21-0 to start the second half, the Dutchmen continued their dominance as Curtis Samuel intercepted a Sharif Legree pass, which he would eventually take into the end zone for his second score (28-yard run) of the game.

With a 28-0 lead, the Dutchmen continued their scoring juggernaut with a 21-yard run by Dave Thony, a 35-yard burst by Khalil Lewin and a 25-yard defensive touchdown run by Mayron Oregon on a fumble recovery.

After being awarded the NYCFootball.com MVP Player of the Week Award, the two-way player Ohio State-bound Curtis Samuel summed up his team’s 5-0 record stating, “I think we have the best defense in the league; any of us are able to step up to make the stop.”

Commenting on his team’s last four shutout wins, Samuel added, “We just don’t like being scored on!”

After playing one of the league’s upper tier teams, Fort Hamilton Head Coach Dan Perez acknowledged, “This game was definitely a learning experience for us and we just have to go forward from here.”

Next week, the 4-1 Tigers host the Wolves of the Grand Street Campus on Saturday, October 12.
